I want to share my experience recently. I upgrade my netbook to windows 8. But the problem is it has a lower screen resolotion (1024 x600) but windows 8 only allowed (1024x768) to used metro apps. I found a solution.

Here are some simple way to use metro apps on windows 8 Netbook with lower screen resolution.

Step 1: For the first step, open the Registry Editor. To open a registry editor, open the RUN dialog box. This can be done using Windows + R keys. When the run window appears type, the following command regedit and now press enter. Click yes for the User Account Control (UAC) prompt
.
Step 2:  Now wait for the registry editor to launch, once launched then press Ctrl+ F keys. It will open the file box, there type display1_downscalingsupported. Confirm enable Match whole string only box and then click Find button. You may get only one or several results depending.

Step 3: Change the value from the default “0” to “1” after Double-clicking ondisplay1_downscalingsupported entry. it is important to note that if you have two or moredisplay1_downscalingsupported entries in the registry then you need to change all of them step by step.

Step 4: After you are done with the changing of values exit Registry Editor and reboot your PC.

Step 5:  When the PC gets back in the working condition after rebooting, right-click on the desktop, select Screen Resolution. There you will now see 1024×768 resolution. Select it and then click Apply button. Click Keep changes. You should now be able to run Metro-style apps using your netbook.
